PUBLIC CONSULTATION – REMINDER
The public is reminded that the Marine Management Plan (MMP) is currently out for public consultation.
The MMP identifies the existing and potential pressures in St Helena’s waters, which includes pollution, fishing, biosecurity, tourism and construction. The MMP specifies the management strategies that should be adopted to ensure our natural marine resources are used sustainably.
The plan relates to St Helena’s 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone, which it is proposed will be designated as a Marine Protected Area. The type of protection that St Helena is striving to achieve is known as an IUCN Category VI status – a protected area with sustainable use of natural resources.
To date, as part of the public consultation process, radio interviews and meetings with key stakeholders, elected Members and the general public have been organised.
EMD’s Marine team would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the consultation process so far. Comments made and feedback submitted is being considered.
Reference copies of the MMP are available from the receptions of Essex House and Scotland, the Public Library and the Customer Services Centre. It is also available on the SHG website under the Public Consultation section of the Publications page: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/publications/, and electronic or personal printed copies can be made available on request. All written comments and feedback on the MMP should be submitted to the Environmental Management Division at Essex House or via email at marine@enrd.gov.sh by no later than 4pm on Monday 8 August 2016.
