In emergencies there is an on call system for out of hours, please contact the General Hospital on Tel: 22500.
Referral process:
The Mental Health Team accepts:
- Self-referrals
- Referrals from family members, professionals, or other third parties, as long as the person has consented
Referrals can be made by

- Ask staff from Health and Social Care to refer
We aim to offer an appointment within two weeks for all routine referrals. Urgent referrals within 72 hours, emergency referral within 24 hours.
Services provided by the Mental Health Team
The St Helena Mental Health Team provides comprehensive, person-centred support for all age groups, ranging from emotional wellbeing support to severe mental illness management
Operating primarily as an opt-in service, it covers everything from talking therapies to crisis intervention, inpatient treatment and community education.

Remote – off island support
- Clinical psychologists

- Consultant Psychiatrist available remotely (visits the Island once a
year).
Feedback and Complaints
We welcome feedback on our services. Your feedback helps us improve our services. In order to understand your experience of our care, we may ask you to complete the ‘Friends and family questionnaire’ which we will give you in our clinic.
If you would like to raise a concern about our service, please contact the team on 22593 and speak to the Team Leader. You can also complete the Health and Social Care complaint form and email it to: health.socialcarefeedback@sainthelena.gov.sh the form is found on the website here and can also be collected at the hospital reception.
If you prefer to complete the health department complaint form, which can found requested at the Hospital then please do so and submit to the Director of Health, Health Directorate, General hospital Jamestown.
