Inclusion Service Education Directorate

Welcome to the Inclusion Service. We are a dedicated support service providing for children and young people with special educational needs and disability across St Helena.

Our work supports children with additional needs, their parents, and teaching staff. Additionally, we team up with professionals across Education, Health and Social Care to help ensure all children have access to quality education regardless of their needs.

The Inclusion Service is committed to supporting and developing an inclusive education system where every child and young person can achieve.

Who we are

We are a small team: the Head of Inclusion manages the service and is assisted by two Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCOs): Primary and Secondary, an Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNT); working across Primary and Secondary and an Administration Support Officer. We are supported in our work by a resident Educational Psychologist.

What we do

The Head of Inclusion has the overall responsibility for the running of the centre and the delivery of the Inclusion Service across the Island.

SENCOs Coordinate SEN provision across schools.

The ALNT teacher has special responsibilities relating to supporting children who are experiencing social, emotional or mental health needs.

The Administration Support Officer is the point of contact for our centre. The role provides administrative support to the team.

Our Education Psychologist provides professional advice and guidance to education staff, parents, children and other multi agency professionals to help children and young people achieve their full potential. They use their training in psychology and knowledge of child development to provide consultation to professionals and families, to support assessment of children’s needs and planning of evidence-based interventions, to provide training, and to support research.
