Inclusion Service Education Directorate

Inclusion Services- Education Directorate:

Hello and welcome to the Inclusion Services. We are a dedicated support service on St Helena for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Our work benefits children with special needs, their parents, and teachers. Furthermore, we collaborate with professionals in Education, Health, and Social Care to ensure that all children, regardless of their needs, have access to quality education.

The Inclusion Services is dedicated to supporting and developing an inclusive education system in which every child and young person has the opportunity to succeed.

Our Team:

The unit is managed by the Inclusion Manager, who is assisted by two Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) in Primary and Secondary, an Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNT) who works across Primary and Secondary, and an Administration Support Officer.

What we do:

Inclusion Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the unit as well as the delivery of Inclusion Services throughout the Island.

SENCOs are in charge of coordinating special education services across schools.

The ALNT teacher has additional responsibilities for children who have social, emotional, or mental health needs.

The Inclusion TA is responsible for assisting learners attending the Pupil Referral Unit within the Inclusion Services unit as well as learners placed on the Alternative Education Provision.

Our unit’s point of contact is the Administration Support Officer. The role provides administrative support to the team.

Our unit refers learners to multi-agency professionals for assistance and offers professional advice and guidance to teachers, parents, and learners to help them reach their full potential. We are also accountable to schools for providing evidence-based interventions for learners with special needs.

Where to find us

We are located in Olive Cottage at Francis Plain. This historical building is well situated for our work because it is set within beautiful, private grounds and is easily accessible.
