Children & Adults Social Care Directorate

The Children and Adults Social Care Directorate came into effect on 1 June 2019 having previously been known as the Safeguarding Directorate.

Our Vision

“Working together to promote the wellbeing and safety of vulnerable children and adults in the community of St Helena.”

Our Mission

“To safeguard and promote the welfare of all vulnerable people in St Helena by further developing professional social services and establishing inter-agency co-operation and collaboration which puts vulnerable people at the centre of our services.”

The Directorate has a large remit, working with vulnerable people of all ages from pre-birth to 100 years plus, living in their own homes and in our residential provisions. The Directorate is comprised of a number of teams each focussing on a different area of social care. There has so far been significant progress in all areas of the service which has been recognised through audit and quality checks undertaken by DfID, FCO and more recently CAFCASS. The Directorate continues to welcome the scrutiny and quality assurance checks as we endeavour to move forward to a service were excellence is considered the norm.

The Children and Adults Social Care Directorate is developing its services to ensure that we meet the needs of the most vulnerable in society. This is achieved through positive partnership working. We work closely with a number of other SHG teams including Health, Police, Education and Housing in order to provide a joined up approach. This enables us to better meet the individual needs of those who we strive to support and protect.

Given the nature of the Directorate we have a large team of staff and offer a range of career opportunities such as Carers, Support Workers, Cooks, Social Workers, Social Care Officers, Finance Assistants, Handymen and admin roles to name a few. We are always keen to hear from people that would like to work with us to assist people with vulnerabilities: if you are interested in either working or volunteering with the Directorate then please contact Brick House on Tel: (00290) 22713.
