The BNS Araguari (pictured), a Brazilian Navy offshore patrol vessel, is scheduled to arrive in James Bay tomorrow, Friday 1 April 2016, at around 7.30am. The Araguari will have a brief stay at St Helena, departing at 10am on Saturday morning. A reception for the crew is being arranged at the Briars for Friday evening, with the remaining programme yet to be confirmed.
The vessel, based on a UK Royal Navy Patrol vessel design, is 90m long, and has 80-man crew, with addition accommodation for up to 40 troops. The Araguari performs a range of Economic Exclusion Zone (EEZ) management tasks, special operations and maritime law enforcement work.
