His Excellency, Governor Nigel Phillips CBE, departed St Helena on Saturday 21 January 2023. The Governor has travelled to Ascension Island, where he is due to stay until 27 January 2023.
Governor Phillips is due to return to St Helena on 04 February, travelling via the UK. When the Governor departs Ascension Greg Gibson, Head of the Governor’s Office, will be sworn in as Acting Governor for this period.
On his visit, Governor Phillips commented:
“I am excited to be travelling to Ascension for the first time in my capacity as Governor. I have a packed schedule but am looking forward to meeting with the elected members of the Council, the various employing organisations, our UK and US military colleagues and of course members of the public. I’ll be visiting at an exciting time, as the runway project enters its final stages and the island looks forward to the recommencement of the South Atlantic Airbridge.”
