The revision of the Laws of St Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha was completed on Monday, 15 January 2018.
The new edition of the Laws is now available on the SHG Website via the following link: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/legislation-of-st-helena-ascension-tristan-da-cunha/. In contrast to the previous edition, this new online edition is authoritative and can be used in court.
This is the conclusion of two years of work led by John Wilson, a law drafting consultant and former Attorney General of Tuvalu and Montserrat. Mr Wilson was appointed as Law Reform Commissioner in early 2016.
Mr Wilson has been assisted by the territories’ Legislative Drafter, Christell Brodrick, and by SHG’s Senior Press Officer, Liam Yon, as technical support.
In addition, the Attorney General’s Chambers have been liaising with Judicial Services in order to identify case law to upload onto the website of the British and Irish Legal Information Institute: http://www.bailii.org/sh/cases/SHSC/.
Attorney General, Angelo Berbotto, said:
“I am pleased to see the achievement of this project. The new edition of the laws is a further step towards making the laws of all three territories more accessible to the residents of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.”
