MESSAGE FROM ST HELENA POLICE – ALCOHOL AND VIOLENCE

Recently, St Helena Police have been called to a number of incidents of a serious violent nature, particularly occurring in or around licenced premises, which suggests that alcohol is a contributing factor.

Police Inspector Julianne Benjamin said:

“Alcohol reduces the human ability to think clearly. Too often we don’t know our limit of alcohol consumption.  After consuming a large amount of alcohol, things that would normally be minor are heightened, which in turn could cause an aggressive reaction.

“No one wants to go out on a night fearing that they could be assaulted. Everyone goes out to have a good time and everyone should know that whilst out they will be safe.

“If you are at licenced premises  where violence is taking place or you fear that violence will take place then please call the Police. Police presence will be higher in these areas.”
