‘MEMORIES OF THE RMS’ – COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

To commemorate the life of the RMS St Helena, a competition was held in all Island schools encouraging pupils and students to submit a drawing, collage, poem or short description of their memories of the RMS.

A total of 143 entries were received and were judged anonymously by a carefully-selected panel who commented on the outstanding effort spent on the various creations submitted by all participants.

Following a difficult round of judging, the following winners in each category were decided:

Nursery and Reception (ages 3 – 4) – A drawing or collage of your RMS memories

  • 1st – Nursery class – Harford Primary School
  • 2nd – Julio Henry – Reception, Harford Primary School
  • 3rd – Nathan Thomas – Reception, Pilling Primary School

 Year 1 and 2 A drawing or collage of your RMS memories

  •  1st – Tori Clingham – Year 2, Harford Primary School
  • 2nd – Dillon George – Year 1, St Paul’s Primary School
  • 3rd – Scarlett Yon – Year 2, Harford Primary School

 Year 3 and 4 A poem or drawing of your RMS memories

 Poem

  • 1st – Year 4 class – Pilling Primary School
  • 2nd – Molly McGinnety – Year 4, St Paul’s Primary School
  • 3rd – Taylor Duncan -Year 4, St Paul’s Primary School

 Drawing/Collage

  • 1st – Tyler Anthony – Year 3, Pilling Primary School
  • 2nd – Ziggy Yon – Year 3, Harford Primary School
  • 3rd – Dewain Osborne – Year 4, Pilling Primary School

 Year 5 and 6 – A poem or drawing of your RMS memories

 Poem

  • 1st – Raylisha Piek – Year 5, St Paul’s Primary School
  • 2nd –  Bianca Thomas – Year 6, Harford Primary School
  • 3rd – Jodie Thomas – Year 6, Pilling Primary School

 Drawing/Collage

  • 1st – Lucio George – Year 6, St Paul’s Primary School
  • 2nd – Jaydee Caswell – Year 5, St Paul’s Primary School
  • 3rd – Blake Peters – Year 6, Harford Primary School

 Year 7 + Write a short description (maximum 300 words) on your RMS memories

  • 1st –  Brooke Yon – Year 8
  • 2nd – Christy Jo Scipio-O’dean – Year 9
  • 3rd –  Jake Ansell – Year 8

Competition winners will be presented with their certificates and prizes at the RMS Farewell celebrations on Friday, 9 February 2018.

Winners will also have the honour of carrying the 27 foot pennant when the RMS departs the Island on Saturday, 10 February.
