Maundy Thursday falls this year on 29 March. As per tradition, many members of the public spend this time fishing at various locations around the Island.
The Sea Recue Service advises the public to consider taking the following items on their fishing trip:
- VHF radio/mobile phone
- Life Jacket
- Any prescription medication
- Suitable clothing for the weather conditions, additionally if possible some sort of Hi-Vis
- First Aid Kit
- Adequate lighting
Fishermen are encouraged to inform a family member or friend of their intended fishing location and their expected time of return. It is not recommended that anyone fish alone.
Throughout Maundy Thursday night, the Sea Rescue Service will be patrolling various fishing spots. If any assistance is required they will be monitoring VHF Channel 16. The Sea Rescue Service can be signalled by a flashing or waving light and, as usual, will still be contactable in an emergency via telephone number 999.

High tide: 13.42hrs – 0.97m, Low tide: 19.58hrs – 0.07m

Moonrise: 17.16hrs
Good Friday
High tide: 01.57hrs – 0.92m, Low tide: 08.10hrs – 0.00m
High tide: 14.25hrs – 1.00m, Low tide: 20.38hrs – 0.05m
Sunrise: 06.28hrs, Sunset: 18.26hrs
Moonset: 05.23hrs
The forecast for wind direction on Maundy Thursday from 1200hrs onwards is blowing from the easterly direction at 15knots, with a south-west swell of 4-6ft peaking at 8ft in height.
The weather forecast for Maundy Thursday will also be posted at the main landing steps at the lower Wharf.
