The St Helena Community College (SHCC) is encouraging members of the public to take advantage of the Core Skills courses they currently have on offer. These courses are free to residents of St Helena and the registration period is still open until Monday, 13 August 2018.
Core Skills courses are aimed at ensuring the community has access to achieving basic skills which underpin successful participation in work as well as to provide a foundation for students to progress further and continue their education.
These courses are usually tutor-led, meaning students will have support in a classroom-based environment.

The College offers the courses at different levels, so students can choose which is best suited to their needs. Whereas most Core Skills courses lead to formal qualifications, if any student wants a less formal course to get started, they can register to the Essential Skills course in the first instance.
Acting Assistant Director (Lifelong Learning), Angela Benjamin, said:
“Core Skills have been offered for many years in adult learning as a focus on continuing education. This training provides the opportunity for those persons who just want to start with the basic skills and for those who want to progress through to higher level learning.
“The SHCC is committed to fulfilling the training needs of the locals and works to encompass learning for everyone.”
