ST HELENA WATER POSTER COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Warning & Informing sub-group of the St Helena Resilience Forum has today announced the winners of the recent poster competition held in Island schools which asked students to illustrate ‘How do you save water?’.

Winners are as follows:

• Early Years: Nursery & Reception
  

1^st Place – Ebony Henry (St Paul’s Primary)

2^nd Place – Early Years’ Class Poster (Pilling Primary)

3^rd Place – Carlal Constantine (St Paul’s Primary)

•  KS1: Year 1 & 2 pupils

1^st Place – Kyle Williams (St Paul’s Primary)

2^nd Place – Kaelize Thomas (Harford Primary)

3^rd Place – Sam Benjamin (St Paul’s Primary)

•  Lower KS2: Year 3 & 4 pupils

1^st Place – Charlotte Leask (Harford Primary)

2^nd Place – Jay Tee Thomas (St Paul’s Primary)

3^rd Place – Aleishia Simon (Pilling Primary)

•  Upper KS2: Year 5 & 6 pupils

1^st Place – Ashlie Thomas (St Paul’s Primary)

2^nd Place – Shaquille Benjamin (Harford Primary)

3^rd Place – Amber George (Pilling Primary)

The competition, which aimed to encourage pupils and students to display through artwork their most creative ideas on how they were saving water during the recent water shortage, saw a great response – with over 100 posters submitted between Island schools.

The only poster submitted from Prince Andrew School unfortunately did not meet the judging criteria.

Chairperson of the Warning & Informing sub-group, Kerisha Stevens, said:

“On behalf of the group, I would like to extend a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who participated. The quality of artwork received not only goes a long way in showcasing the talent we have on the Island, but also how our young people are thinking about Island-wide issues that affect them and the important role they play.

 “We were very impressed with all submissions and our job was not an easy one. The winners were chosen using the following criteria: Did the poster answer the question ‘How Do I Save Water?’, Creativity, Attractiveness, Clarity and Spelling.

 “Congratulations to our winners and also to all who took part. Well done!”

 Connect Saint Helena Ltd has sponsored first, second and third cash prizes of £25, £15 and £10 respectively, for the most creative water saving ideas submitted and will soon be going out to each school to present winning students with their prizes and certificates.

Now that the winners are named, all posters will shortly be publically displayed. Further details will follow.
