ST HELENA PREPARES FOR INAUGURAL FLIGHT

The countdown to the arrival of St Helena’s first commercial flight has begun, with just four days remaining before Airlink’s Embraer E190-100IGW aircraft touches down at St Helena Airport.

Saturday, 14 October 2017, will mark a new chapter in St Helena’s history when the Island welcomes a flight of 78 passengers comprising returning Saints and invited guests. Invited guests will include Tour Operators from Eastcape Tours, Get Africa Travel, Springbok Atlas and Island Holidays. There will also be representatives from international media organisations including the BBC, ITV, The Times, Thomson Reuters, Associated Press and other publications.

SHG, St Helena Tourism, St Helena Airport and Enterprise St Helena, working together with Airlink, have been busy preparing for Saturday’s flight and looking forward to welcoming visitors by air to experience what St Helena has to offer.

Governor Lisa Phillips said:

“As the big day draws near, I, for one, am getting really excited about the new chapter in St Helena’s history. I am sure everyone will give this first flight a huge St Helena welcome. We can all think about memorable holidays we have had in our lives, at home or abroad.  They can often signpost a particular time in our life. For the people on the flight this week, and every subsequent week, the people of St Helena will be making those memories for our visitors. Let’s make sure they are fantastic ones.”

Guests will undertake a full itinerary of visits to key tourist attractions on St Helena and a reception hosted by Governor Lisa Phillips will be held at Plantation House for all passengers onboard Saturday’s flight.

St Helena Airport will be open to the public on the weekend and on flight days. Members of the public will have access to all landside facilities. This includes the Tourism facility, the Bank of St Helena facility, the Shop, the Restaurant and the Viewing Platform. Departing passengers will also have access to the Duty Free Shop, the Airside Café, and the Departures Lounge.

Members of the public are invited to join us in making sure Jamestown is clean and tidy for our first commercial flight.  Staff in the Castle, including the Governor and other senior officials will be out and about picking up litter and ensuring that visitors experience the best that St Helena can offer.
