Connect Saint Helena Ltd announced in January the awarding of a contract to WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff, to carry out a geohydrological study of St Helena. This study will provide information on the most likely locations to find water for the drilling of trial bore holes on the Island.
Connect is now pleased to advise that work carried out by WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff is at an advanced stage, with a draft Geohydrological Report to be made available to all stakeholders for consideration during this month.
Operations Director, Leon De Wet, explains:
“The aim of the draft Geohydrological Report will be to advise and direct on-site exploration drilling. Identifying potential drilling sites will be conducted through technical assessments on geological and hydrological information available on the Island.”
Stage two of the study will include further on-Island technical assessments as well as on-site drilling work. Drilling will commence when an agreement is reached with stakeholders on the drilling sites proposed.
WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff and a Drilling Contractor will arrive on-Island on Friday 10 March 2017 to carry out on-site drilling work which will further inform the Geohydrological Study.
Leon concluded:
“It is expected that the Deep Aquifer Drilling Exploration Programme will result in a number of feasible boreholes to be drilled across Island for use in the countering of the current and any future drought situations. The boreholes to be drilled would also be used in future for monitoring purposes of the groundwater resources across St Helena.”
