Sascha Kiess (see photo attached), a trainer from the UK Institute for Continuous Improvement in Public Services (ICiPS), is on-Island from 18 June to 17 July 2017 to help SHG develop a Continuous Improvement programme tailored to the needs of the organisation.

Continuous Improvement is an ongoing effort to improve products, services or processes. These efforts can seek ‘incremental’ improvement over time or ‘breakthrough’ improvement all at once.

Sascha will carry out a training programme for 12 members of staff who will then become SHG’s Change Champions.

Chief Secretary (Designate) Susan O’Bey explains:

“Continuous Improvement is central to many of the changes outlined in our Prospectus for Change. We want to improve the quality of our service delivery and at the same time, ensure that we simplify our systems and processes so that it is easier for people to do business with us. We want to provide training to our staff so they can take this work forward in their areas.”

An organisation with a culture of continuous improvement will provide opportunities and benefits for all, including:

  • Leaders who are transformative and future focused
  • Services which are customer centred
  • Employees who are engaged and motivated
  • Collaboration across the whole organisation
  • Services which cost less to deliver

Susan added:

“This is an exciting opportunity for us and the training will enable us to build on the great work that has already been achieved under the Prospectus for Change.

“ICiPS has been very instrumental in supporting the UK Government in their Change Agenda and we are extremely pleased to be working with them.”

The Institute for Continuous Improvement in Public Services (ICiPS) is a registered UK charity which launched in November 2012 with the aspiration of embedding continuous improvement through education. ICiPS work in partnership with other public and third sector organisations and Universities to ensure they are at the forefront of Continuous Improvement thinking.

Sascha Kiess is a lead trainer with ICiPS and is an experienced change manager and trainer. He has delivered financial benefits and built Continuous Improvement capability and cultural change in service and manufacturing industries, across both the public and private sectors.
