The Adult Social Care Team is excited to announce that a group of clients from St Helena’s community, and their families, will be leaving on the RMS today, Wednesday 31 May, for a round-trip to Ascension Island, funded by kind donations from the Saint community.
With the majority of these people never experiencing the opportunity to leave the Island, the group of 22 will spend a day on Ascension, before returning to St Helena on Monday, 5 June 2017.
Members of the group are overwhelmed to have been given this opportunity – it’s a once in a lifetime dream come true. They are all looking forward to seeing friends and family, and can’t wait to see what Ascension Island looks like.
Social Care Officer, Patra Duncan, said:
“In 2015, the Adult Social Care Team had a brainwave and came up with the idea of taking our vulnerable adults in the community on a round-trip to Ascension Island. After liaising with Mrs Kedell Worboys, we were able to secure cabins on the RMS at a reduced rate. This brought lots of excitement and plans took off.
“After being a part of the last trip to Ascension Island and seeing the positive impact that it had on all involved, it was something that I wanted to see continued. Although there has been a lot of planning, preparation and sleepless nights, the emotions and elation that was portrayed were phenomenal. We are so grateful for everyone’s support.”
In March last year, history was made by taking the residents of Ebony View on a round-trip to Ascension Island, which proved to be a huge success that was enjoyed by all. The tremendous support that was received from the community, HUHO, ESH and those on Ascension Island was incredible, one that will always be remembered by all. Thanks are extended to all who fundraised or helped in any way.
