LEARNING HOW TO LAUNCH AND RUN A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS WITH THE ST HELENA COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Are you a business owner who would like to learn how to market your products more effectively? Or perhaps you have a great idea for a business, but you just aren’t sure how to get started. Maybe someone has asked you for a business proposal, but you just aren’t sure how to put one together.

Enterprise and Marketing is one of the featured courses starting at the St Helena Community College (SHCC) this month. This qualification is designed for people of any age who want to develop their knowledge and practical skills in setting up and operating a business.

The Enterprise and Marketing course is an accredited Level 2 qualification offered by Cambridge and is equivalent to a GCSE. Unlike more traditional GCSE’s though, the focus is on practical skills and application.

Learners cover three key areas in this course, all focused on supporting successful business development.

The first topic encompasses key concepts in enterprising and marketing. Students cover the main activities that will need to happen to support a new business, and what the key factors are to consider when starting up a business.

The second topic focuses on how to design a business proposal. Learners will develop the skills to design a business proposal to meet a specific business challenge. They will identify a customer profile for a specific product, complete market research to generate product design ideas, and use financial calculations to propose a pricing strategy and determine the viability of their product proposal.

In the final section of the course, learners will develop the skills to create a brand identity and promotional plan for their specific business product proposal. They also learn how to pitch their business proposal to an external audience.

Director of Commercial Development and Enterprise, Martin George, said:

“Skills development is essential for business development and growth. The SHCC can help you achieve this with minimal time or cost incurred when considered against the benefit to be gained. The Enterprise and Marketing course is one such opportunity; essentially critical for any business, especially in the wake of the digital age and the future possibilities this brings to St Helena.”

If you are interested in signing up for this course, you only have a few days left to register. You can contact SHCC on tel: 22607 or email: SHCC@sainthelena.gov.sh for more information on how to register. This course is offered on Wednesday afternoons from 3-5pm. The cost is £20 for the year-long course, including the cost of the assessment.
