EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT STRATEGIC PLANNING DAY

The Education & Employment Directorate held a Strategic Planning Day for all staff ahead of the start of the new school year.

The day began with an overview, by Director Shirley Wahler, of the year’s challenges and achievements. Head teachers of each school shared evaluations of their School Improvement Plans developed and implemented in the 2016/17 school year.

These plans all linked to the strategic objectives set by the Directorate. The presentations also highlighted the improvements made throughout the year as well as priority areas that each school set in Literacy, Maths and Inclusion. In the following session, all staff got involved in reviewing, updating and agreeing the targets and actions in relation to the Directorate’s Strategic Plan for the next three years.

One staff member commented:

“This was a very informative practical session outlining the Strategic Plan for the next three years. It was an opportunity for all staff in the Education sector to become familiar with the targets set and to amend, if necessary, with a chance to express their views on certain areas. This was both healthy and also gave staff a sense of ownership.”

The day ended with staff from each primary school, Prince Andrew School, and the St Helena Community College, coming together in their respective sectors to evaluate what went well over the past year and what areas need to improve. This gave everyone the chance to share their opinions and ideas for further improvement in 2017/18.
