This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on the 11 November 2018 and on that day, The Most Reverend Dr Thabo Cecil Makgoba – Archbishop of Cape Town and Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, will conduct a Divine Service at the Cenotaph in Jamestown.
Her Excellency the Governor will attend and the public are invited to join as we mark the end of World War One (WW1) centenary by saying thank you to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world.
A special place will be reserved at the Cenotaph for serving and ex-servicemen and women and also St Helenians who served on the old RMS St Helena during the 1982 Falklands War.
All persons wishing to take part in the Divine Service are asked to assemble at the Cenotaph by no later than 10.40am.
The public is also informed that whilst the Gettogethers and Salvation Army Bands will provide music for the Service at the Cenotaph, they will not, on this occasion, be marching or providing music at the Grand Parade following the Service.
Please note that the Island wide ringing of bells of all kinds or other acoustic signals on the day, should start at 12.30pm GMT and may continue ringing for two minutes.
All persons wishing to attend the Beacon Lighting Ceremony on the evening of Sunday, 11 November are asked to assemble at Kingshurst Community Centre by no later than 18.45pm.
