IMPROVEMENTS TO STATISTICAL DATA RELEASE PROCESS

The SHG Statistics Office has recently improved their process for releasing the statistical datasets they compile.

While they will continue to publish Statistical Bulletins with a brief analysis of key statistics, and reports of major statistical activities, such as the 2017 Household Expenditure Survey, the team will now also release regular updates to specific datasets as soon as they are available.

This approach replaces the Statistical Yearbook, which was published as a statistical collection between 1988 and 2014. The new process will provide updates and data releases in a more timely manner and in a format which can be used in popular data processing software, such as Microsoft Excel.

Updates will be announced and published on the Statistics page of the SHG website: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/statistics, and in some cases will also be accompanied by a Statistical Bulletin and Press Release.

Datasets currently available include inflation, incomes, population (including arrivals and departures and the 2016 census), the results of the 2017 Household Expenditure Survey, construction activity, and production & sales of electricity and water (utilities). Other updated datasets, which will be released soon, include weather, fishing & agricultural production, Ascension population, social benefits, health, education, and transport. These datasets, including any future dataset releases, will be available on the statistics data page of the SHG website: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/statistics-data. Some will be updated monthly, some quarterly, and others annually.

Published statistical reports, including Statistical Bulletins can be found on the statistics reports and publications page of the SHG website: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/statistics-reports-and-publications

Any comments and suggestions on any of the statistics published by the Statistics Office are very welcome. Please email: statistics@sainthelena.gov.sh, call tel: 22138, or visit the office in person on the second floor of the Castle, Jamestown.
