BOAT WRECKAGE AT TURKS CAP BAY

UPDATE

The Emergency Planning Department has been investigating the identity of a boat wreckage that washed ashore at Turks Cap Bay.

With the help of local resident, Bruce Salt, and his colleague in the Cruisers Forum, John Titterton – a South African maritime expert – the wreckage has been identified as that of a ‘Switch 51 Catamaran’. John also carried out enquiries with the South African Maritime Resources into missing vessels.

All evidence suggests that the wreckage of the Catamaran at Turks Cap Bay is that of the Llama Lo. The French built, 51 ft long, Llama Lo, capsized off the Eastern Cape in October 2015 after colliding with a whale. The two crew members were rescued, but the wreck was never recovered.

The Emergency Planning Department would like to thank Bruce and John for their time and resources in assisting with their enquiries.
