RMS St Helena
St Helena Line (SHL) has today advised SHG that a further problem has been detected with the starboard propeller. Divers have been deployed and confirmed that the propeller blades are locked in the full ahead position. The RMS will therefore continue the voyage on one engine. This will result in a two day delay to the ship’s arrival at St Helena – now scheduled to arrive on Friday, 21 April 2017.
Support has been provided to passengers wishing to make alternative travel arrangements or to change their travel itinerary.
Cargo operations are currently ongoing in Cape Town and the ship is expected to sail on completion of these operations either late this evening or early hours tomorrow morning, Saturday, 15 April 2017.
Further updates will be provided when received and the revised schedule will be published as soon as possible.

Ascension Island Runway
St Helena Government has today received the following statement from the JFC HQ in respect of the runway on Ascension Island:
“As part of ongoing monitoring of the state of repair of the Ascension Island runway, we have made the decision to not fly the Voyager aircraft to Ascension for our routine flight from 14 April 2017, for safety reasons. We will ensure the continuation of military support to the Falkland Islands through an alternative hub, and are working with the Foreign Office to put temporary measures in place to support the people who live and work on Ascension Island and the Falkland Islands.”
A large number of people transit Ascension Island to and from St Helena and we are currently reviewing the passenger lists for both the RMS and for flights from Ascension Island to establish how best to proceed.
