‘SAINT SLIMMERS’ COMES TO AN END

‘Saint Slimmers’ – a Healthy Eating & Weight Management course – run by the Health Promotion team has now come to an end, with a final weight loss total of 79kg, between the group.

The ‘Saint Slimmers’ course, which started on Thursday 12 January 2017 to coincide with National Obesity Week, ran for 10 weeks, with the last session ending on Thursday, 16 March 2017. The group consisted of 28 members, 25 of which were physically attending the course and three remotely following the plan.

Sessions throughout the course included an introduction to the group, giving out literature and thinking about reasons for losing weight and barriers to losing weight. This was followed by a more in-depth look at the healthy eating & weight loss programme and the new ‘eat well’ guide. The third session, led by Mike Harper, focused on healthy cooking. Session four and five were led by the physiotherapists – talking about the importance of exercise, followed with a practical session. Other sessions included, Eating (and drinking) Out, Making Good Choices, How to Adapt Recipes, Snacking Overview & Weight Maintenance, Feedback and What Next.

Health Promotion Trainer, Marian Kanes, said:

We were really impressed with the weight loss of the whole group, but particularly with the dedication of a group of people that attended most, if not all of the sessions.  We are particularly pleased that they will be continuing to meet on a regular basis, even after the group has finished.
