SHG is consulting on whether an increase should be made to the Minimum Wage on St Helena.
The Minimum Wage on the Island has not changed in over two years. For persons over the age of 18 the Minimum Wage is £2.60 per hour and £1.65 for those aged between 16 and 17 years.
SHG is also considering the introduction of a Living Wage standard – a benchmark wage reflecting the cost to enjoy a decent quality of life, over and above the Minimum Income Standard.
The Living Wage would not be compulsory but would act as a guide for employers to measure their pay rates against.
The consultation will be with employee representatives and businesses via the Chamber of Commerce. Drop-in sessions at the Canister will also be held on Thursday, 30 March 2017, between 5pm-6.30pm.
The consultation will run until Tuesday, 18 April 2017.
