Councillor Derek Thomas departed the Island on Wednesday 20 April 2016, on the British Airways (operated by Comair) Boeing 737-800 aircraft, to attend the mid-year CPA Executive Committee meeting in London.
The meeting, which takes place at Portcullis House between 28 and 29 April 2016, covers a range of CPA matters including arrangements for the 62nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, due to be held in Bangladesh in September 2016.
The two sub-committees – Planning and Review, and Finance – will also meet. Councillor Thomas sits on the Planning and Review sub-committee. The CPA Executive Committee is chaired by the Hon. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh.
The Committee comprises representatives from the following regions:
- Africa
- Asia
- Australia
- British Islands and Mediterranean
- Canada
- Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic
- India
- Pacific
- South-East Asia
Councillor Thomas will return to St Helena, via Cape Town, on Thursday 12 May 2016.
