DISTRICT & COMMUNITY ROADS

Funding for District and Community roads was made available last financial year (2013/14) and this current year (2014/15), and the Environment and Natural Resources Committee (ENRC) was keen to see this funding used to address a list of applicants who meet the criteria.  Applications were received for funding, and 15 applications from around the Island have now been awarded grants ranging from £500 to £2500.

Community Roads are defined as those that serve a minimum of three households and funding up to a maximum of £2500 is available.

A District Road is defined as one serving six or more occupied properties (and may have previously received funding as a Community Road).  The priority here is based on the number of existing dwellings served, plus the community facilities directly accessed by the road.

Successful applicants have now been informed by letter and work is to be completed by the end of March 2015.

The Chairman of the ENRC, Councillor Wilson Duncan, commented:

“It will take hard work from the various communities to improve their roads, and we are pleased to be able to offer some financial support.”

Should further funding become available next year, then a fresh call for bids will be made via an open application process.  The public will be advised on how to apply nearer the time.
