The Social & Community Development Committee (SCDC) met on Wednesday, 14 February 2018, to discuss a number of items.
In Open Session, Members did not support an increase to the Gaming Machine Licence Fee and agreed to review in a year’s time. An increase from £50.00 to £60.00 was agreed for a transfer of a Gaming Machine Licence.
Liquor Licence Fees were considered and the following agreed:
- For each application for a grant, renewal, transfer or removal of a licence at £15.00
- Application for a special order of exemption at £10.00 plus £5.00 for each occasion (after the first) included in the same application
- Issue of any other licence including tavern, hotel, restaurant and club an increase from £100.00 to £125.00
- Liquor licences for Community Centres from £40.00 to £45.00
The Committee noted that occasional liquor sales licences are being looked at to see whether there might be a way of reducing administrative and court work in view of the number of times people have to apply for a licence. In the meantime, there is to be no change to the current fee.
The recommended changes to the Gaming Machine and Liquor Licence Fees will be referred to the Governor in Council for approval to amend the Regulations.
Also considered and agreed was the Archives Research Fee which will now be £40.00 for the first two hours and £20.00 per hour thereafter.
The Committee also had no objection to a suitable fee being charged for photocopying documents.
In the Closed Session, three newly appointed members of the Safeguarding staff were introduced to the Committee. These were – Therapeutic Practitioner, Tamara Coleman, Quality Assurance & Policy Consultant, Gavin Thomas, and Assistant Director, Carol George.
Members also received an update from the Safeguarding Director, Matt Ansell.
The SCDC also held a special meeting on Thursday, 1 March, to discuss a recommendation from the Employment Rights Committee on proposed increases to the Minimum Wage. The increases proposed were:
- 16 years to 18 years from £2.00 to £2.10 per hour
- 18 years and over from £2.95 to £3.05 per hour
The Committee gave approval for the necessary revised legislation to be drafted and forwarded to Executive Council in March for approval and to agree an implementation date.
