Public Guardian for St Helena and Ascension Island visits office of the Public Guardian for England and Wales

Public Guardian for St Helena and Ascension Island, Gavin (Jack) Thomas, undertook an official visit to the Office of the Public Guardian for England and Wales (OPG) in the UK on 9 and 10 July 2019.

These visits gave Gavin the opportunity to meet with a wide range of managers and staff dealing with deputyship orders and Lasting Power of Attorneys. Some of the key areas covered during this two-day visit included: joint working with legal services and the courts, supervision arrangements for Deputies, oversight of Lasting Power of Attorney, management of complaints, enforcement work, and strategic development.

Gavin said:

I would like to thank all staff at OPG in the UK for taking the time to meet with me, also to Business Manager, Sarah Chapman, who was instrumental in arranging and preparing both visits in Birmingham and Nottingham. I really appreciate that staff shared their knowledge and insight about their roles and responsibilities within OPG. I can now utilise this experience and support the development and sustainability of the necessary systems and processes required to continue establishing the Office of the Public Guardian for St Helena and Ascension Island.”
