The Property Service is responsible for the strategic management, maintenance, and development of St Helena’s Crown Estate, as well as statutory land registration services.

As custodians of the Crown Estate—comprising approximately 80% of the island’s land—we ensure that government land and buildings, whether for operational, residential, or commercial use, are managed sustainably and efficiently. Our approach aligns with the Property Disposal and Purchase Policy 2024, the Property Disposal Register and Plan, and the goals of the Sustainable Economic Development Strategy 2023-2033, supporting St Helena’s long-term growth and development.

Our Core Functions:

•         Crown Estate Management – Overseeing the leasing, sale, and administration of government-owned land and buildings to foster sustainability, socio-economic growth, and investment.

•         Housing Services – Leading St Helena’s housing strategy, managing and maintaining social housing, ensuring fair allocation, and addressing homelessness relief.

•         Land Registry – Administering statutory land registration in accordance with the Registered Land Ordinance 1980, ensuring accurate recording of land ownership.

Through effective governance and strategic land management, the Property Service plays a vital role in supporting population growth, investment, and economic development for St Helena.
