HEAVY WINDS AND SEA CONDITIONS

The following is a Public Announcement from the Emergency Planning Department:

The Emergency Planning Department would like to inform the public, with regards to the heavy winds that St Helena is currently experiencing, that wind speeds are forecasted to continue to increase today, Friday 16 November, with speeds of 24knots and gusts of 30-60knots.

These high winds will start to subside late on Sunday afternoon, 18 November.

All boat owners are advised to ensure their moorings are secured due to the heavy winds.

Sea conditions are also forecast to deteriorate with a north westerly swell building up to three meters on Tuesday, 20 November.

The public is advised to use caution when accessing the Seafront area. To avoid damage to vehicles, drivers are also asked to take care when parking near the safety rails.

Due care and attention should be taken when swimming in Rupert’s and James Bay during this time.

Port Control will be monitoring sea conditions and may restrict access to the Seafront, Wharf, and Rupert’s Jetty areas if necessary.
