RMS ST HELENA IN DRY DOCK

Repair work on the RMS St Helena is progressing well in the Dry Dock at Simonstown.

The damaged control rod for the Starboard controllable pitch propeller has been exposed and repair work is ongoing.  The starboard propeller shaft has been withdrawn as part of the repair operation (see photo attached).

While in Dry Dock, the RMS’ hull will be thoroughly cleaned.  An inspection will also be carried out of all underwater equipment including the ship’s stabilisers.

While no guarantee can be given until repairs and testing are complete, it is expected that the RMS should be back in service as planned for her next voyage, departing Cape Town on Friday, 14 April 2017.
