‘OCEAN OBSERVER’ TO BRING PASSENGERS TO ST HELENA

AW Ship Management Limited (AWSML) has identified and contacted the vessel ‘Ocean Observer’ owned by British company Gardline to transport approximately 20 RMS passengers from Cape Town to St Helena.

The Ocean Observer is a small survey ship which is due to depart Cape Town tomorrow, Thursday 20 April 2017, on her way to Puerto Rico. She has agreed to divert to St Helena and the journey will take around 6-7 days from Cape Town.

As a survey ship, the vessel can take a limited number of passengers and all the cabins are single. Medical facilities are limited, which means that allocating places on the voyage is restricted to those who will not routinely need care. The vessel is not equipped to take children.

Chief Secretary Roy Burke said:

“We are grateful to the Master and owners of the Ocean Observer for helping our passengers to travel to St Helena.  We will continue our search for a way to get everyone back as soon as possible.”

Investigations into alternative means of transporting remaining passengers to St Helena continue.
