David John was today promoted from Crew Manager to Watch Manager of the St Helena Fire & Rescue Service (SHF&RS).
David joined the SHF&RS in July 2015 as a full time firefighter after ten plus years working in the same job with CSR Fire Security on the US Base on Ascension Island.
David said on his promotion:
“I think it’s an honour and a privilege to be promoted to Watch Manager with help from the Brigade Manager and my colleagues here. It wasn’t easy, it did take a lot of work, especially being part of a new fire department where I had to learn more about the British standard side as opposed to the American standard in my old job. So it was different, but this is a rewarding career and this new role and responsibility is something I think I can fulfil now and into the future.”
Brigade Manager of the SHF&RS Alan Thomas said:
“David has worked extremely hard with his personal development and progression into the service, and I am really pleased to have him promoted to Watch Manager within the SHF&RS. He exhibits good knowledge and understanding in different aspects of firefighting, and has obtained various overseas professional certifications in fire & rescue techniques. I wish him well and am confident David will continue to show the same dedication and commitment, and challenge himself to become even better while reaching his full potential within this senior position.”
