“GIS and surveying techniques are always evolving so you are constantly learning new things. This includes using various software such as ARC GIS, QGIS, AutoCAD and different surveying equipment.

“In this job you get to see different parts of the Island that most jobs wouldn’t usually allow you to see and explore. GIS can be used in a variety of ways to help St Helena Government as well as local businesses and the general public. Working as a GIS Surveyor on St Helena can throw up various challenges and scenarios due to the island’s terrain. However, when you overcome the challenges, it gives you a sense of accomplishment.
