Company: St Helena Government

Application Deadline: 25 October 2021

Salary: £65,000 per annum

Job Description

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. Tourism resulting from the scheduled air service will significantly enhance St Helena’s economic prospects and have a dramatic impact on the island community.

Responsible for matters relating to air access within the government, you will co-ordinate and manage a joined-up approach between the island’s Air Service Provider, Airport Operator, and Fuel Management Contractor. Aviation on St Helena is in its infancy, so procedures will need to be developed, tested and adapted wherever necessary. You will be responsible for establishing and advising senior officials and politicians on future air access options for St Helena in the short, medium, and long term, enabling the island to achieve its economic development goals.

You must assess the risks to air access, develop contingency plans and ensure that arrangements are in place to minimise any potential disruption to air access to St Helena. You will have responsibility for day-to-day management and administration of all air access related contracts; you must follow best practice in contract management.

The role carries significant management responsibilities across a number of functions and requires high-level liaison with a wide variety of stakeholders.. It is essential to be credible at board level within the aviation industry with appropriate commercial and negotiating capacity.
