Job Description
Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. Coronavirus resulted in a temporary suspension of weekly international flights, impacting on our plans for tourism. St Helena is about to embark on another journey in its transformation, with the laying of a fibre optic cable poised to deliver increased digital capacity to the island.

You will help the growth of key export sectors, ensuring that the mitigation actions within the Sustainable Economic Development Plan are being completed. You will ensure barriers to investment are reduced and that Public Service processes are clearly mapped and communicated. This is a key role in delivering our overarching vision of making St Helena a great place to live, learn, work, visit and invest.
You will develop industries essential to the future economic development of the island, including banking and finance, professional services, company registry and digital sectors. You will attract and maintain investment in St Helena, improving the trade deficit. Enabling the private sector to develop and market export products you will lay the foundations for transformational economic development, by working to reform policy, legislation, and working practices. You will build a strong working partnership with both local and international businesses and enable them to drive St Helena’s economic growth. You will enable local import substituting sectors to thrive thereby reducing the island’s reliance on imports.
