Terrestrial Conservation Officer

£16,248 per annum
The Terrestrial Conservation Officer will play a crucial role in fostering the Island's prosperity by

implementing the Environment, Natural Resources and Planning Portfolio's (ENRP) terrestrial

conservation programme, aimed at preserving St Helena's unique terrestrial biodiversity, endemic

species and natural ecosystems. This position will provide operational direction and support for the

Terrestrial Conservation Section, using sound restoration ecology knowledge to guide the delivery of

habitat restoration, invasive species management and endemic species recovery programmes. The post

holder will maintain a regular and visible presence in the field, working closely with the Species and

Habitats Teams to support effective conservation delivery.

The post holder will support the Head of Nature Conservation in the strategic development of the

terrestrial conservation programme, ensuring that practical conservation delivery, monitoring, research

and scientific evidence inform long-term conservation management. The post holder will also manage

and support to the Nursery Officer and Habitat Chargehands, working closely with them to coordinate the

delivery of the Species and Habitats Teams' work programmes and build on the considerable practical

knowledge and experience within the teams. The role also includes programme and project

implementation, habitat restoration and species conservation, reporting, communications and outreach

activities, and maintaining effective relationships with local and international stakeholders and

conservation partners associated with the work of the Terrestrial Conservation Section (TCS).
