Opening times
The St Helena Dental Clinic is open Monday to Friday between 08:30 – 16:00.
Patients experiencing toothache or other urgent dental problems are advised to contact the clinic in advance or on the day of their symptoms to secure a dedicated appointment slot, ensuring a more patient-focused approach. All appointments must be booked through the Dental Reception on Tel: 25387.
For the following dental emergencies – facial Swelling, post-extraction bleeding and dental trauma – please report directly to the General Hospital Emergency Department during out of hours, where you will be triaged.
About
Dental services on St Helena are provided from the Dental Clinic, located within the Hospital in Upper Jamestown.
A full range of routine dental treatments and limited crown and bridge, and orthodontic treatment is available, with the exception of implants. The service is delivered by a dedicated team comprising:
• Two full-time dentists
• One full-time dental therapist
• Four dental nurses (qualified & trainees)
• One dental receptionist
The Dental Service also includes an on-site dental laboratory used for the construction of dental appliances. The laboratory is staffed by a qualified dental technician and a trainee technician.
Community Dental Service
As part of the Community Dental Service, annual visits are carried out to all schools across St Helena to provide:
* Dental screenings
* Oral health education
Students requiring further treatment are subsequently offered appointments at the Dental Clinic.
The Community Dental Service is also expanding its outreach work to improve access to dental care for individuals who may experience difficulty attending the clinic. This includes visits to residential care facilities.
