A 24-hour emergency laboratory service is available outside normal working hours.

Specialist tests not available on St Helena are referred to accredited off-island laboratories.
Food, Water & Environmental Testing
The laboratory carries out microbiological and chemical testing on food, water and environmental samples to support regulatory compliance, public health monitoring and investigations. Services include:
- Food and water testing
- Environmental sample testing
- Public health investigations
- Specialist microbiology advice and support
The Food & Water Laboratory is accredited by UKAS to ISO 17025 standards.
