‘BE A COUNCILLOR’ – BOOKLET ISSUED

UPCOMING EDUCATIONAL TALK AT MUSEUM

As part of its campaign to raise awareness of this year’s upcoming General Election, St Helena Government has today issued a booklet entitled ‘Stand for what you believe in – Be a Councillor’.

This informative booklet is aimed at those people who are thinking of standing as a Councillor in this year’s General Election. Covered in the booklet is information on:

  • Who can stand for election?
  • The Committee System
  • What do Councillors do?
  • A typical day in the life of a Councillor
  • Do I need any special skills or experience to be a Councillor?
  • Why should I become a Councillor?
  • Who can become a Councillor?
  • Will I get paid for being a Councillor?

The booklet is now available on the SHG website at: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/publications/. Hard copies will also be made available in the Public Library, Customer Service Centre and from the Receptionist at the Castle in Jamestown.

General Election 2017 – Get Involved! Talk at Museum

An educational talk on the upcoming General Election will take place at the Museum of St Helena on Thursday, 29 June 2017, starting at 7pm.

The idea behind the talk is to give potential candidates and other interested persons an opportunity to find out what is involved in being an Elected Member and to let them know how different officials support and interact with Members.

HE Governor Lisa Phillips, Assistant Chief Secretary (Support) & Returning  Officer Gillian Francis, Secretary to Elected Members Anita Legg, the Chief Secretary Roy Burke, Financial Secretary Dax Richards and Attorney General Angelo Berbotto will be in attendance.

Questions can also be put to the panel on the night.

To get an idea of the number of attendees, interested persons are encouraged to register their interest with Gillian Francis at the Castle on tel: 22314 or via email gillian.francis@sainthelena.gov.sh by 4pm on Tuesday, 27 June 2017.
