The St Helena Government Roads Section is pleased to announce that funding has been secured to continue road resurfacing works under the FCDO-funded Economic Development Investment Programme (EDIP).

The project follows the successful completion of Year 1 resurfacing works in March 2026 and will utilise the slurry paver to improve additional sections of the island’s road network. The resurfacing programme will cover the road between Hutt’s Gate and the bottom of W-Road, including a small section of the Levelwood Road from Hutt’s Gate.

Preparatory works are scheduled to begin on 2 November 2026, with working hours from 09:00 to 15:00. Resurfacing works are expected to commence following the delivery of bitumen from overseas, currently scheduled for 17 November 2026. The project will be delivered in six phases.

To enable the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, road closures will be required:

  • Phases 1, 2, 3 and 5 will require daytime road closures from 09:00 to 15:00, including Saturdays.
  • Phases 4 and 6 will require continuous 24-hour road closures until the relevant phase is completed.

The table below outlines the schedule of road closures and works:

Motorists and residents are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and comply with all road signs and traffic management measures in place during the works.

SHG thanks the public for their patience and cooperation while these important improvements are undertaken. The project will help enhance road conditions and support safer, more efficient travel for road users.
