St Helena Government (SHG) advises the public that there is limited time remaining to receive the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination and to register for the influenza (flu) vaccine planned for later this year. Members of the public who are interested and have not yet received their MMR vaccination, or who wish to receive the influenza vaccine, are encouraged to take action before the relevant deadlines.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Vaccination

The MMR vaccination stock, donated by the UK Health Security Agency, will expire 30 September 2026.  Notably, the first and second doses must be given at least 28 days apart. Therefore, anyone yet to receive either their first or second dose of the MMR vaccine are encouraged to attend either a routine community health clinic or enquire at the Hospital Pharmacy on Tel: 25867.

The Health and Social Care Portfolio are pleased to report that over 3,300 doses of the vaccine were administered through the MMR adult catch-up vaccination campaign since April 2026. The portfolio would like to thank those who came forward to receive their vaccines; helping to protect themselves and their communities against dangerous infections.

Register your interest for influenza vaccines

The Health and Social Care Portfolio are now able to purchase influenza (flu) vaccines on behalf of eligible members of the public who are interested in receiving one.  As these vaccines come at a considerable cost to SHG, only individuals who register their interest by 20 August 2026 will be guaranteed a dose of the vaccine.

Interested persons can contact the Health Promotion team on Tel: 25949 or via email: healthpromotion@sainthelena.gov.uk

Individuals in the following categories are encouraged to register their interest:

  • Over the age of 65 years
  • People with an underlying medical condition
  • The main carer of an older or disabled person
  • Currently living with someone with lowered immunity
