ENVIRONMENT & NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE AND HIGHWAYS AUTHORITY MEETING – THURSDAY, 16 AUGUST 2018

The monthly meeting of the Environment & Natural Resources Committee (ENRC) and the Highways Authority took place on Thursday, 16 August 2018.

Traffic issues – speeding and parking throughout the Island – were discussed. The use of additional speed bumps, signage, and educating drivers, were several suggestions of how to deal with complaints. It was agreed that finding solutions to these ever-increasing problems are of utmost importance. Discussions continued on how to support the St Helena Police with these issues and their role in enforcement.

The SHG Roads Policy is being reviewed and changes are being made to the application forms for District & Community Road funding to make the process clearer. A Press Release will be issued shortly to invite the public to submit grant applications for road improvements under this scheme.

Adoption of the Haul Road by SHG has not yet been completed. Following a site visit by members of the Committee and relevant officials, it was agreed that further minor works need to be completed, after which the adoption process will be initiated.

Planning permission will be sought for the erection of additional bus shelters in the Sandy Bay, Seaview, Red Hill, Levelwood, and Ladder Hill areas. It is envisaged this work will commence soon.

The Island’s Built Heritage Report is being finalised and will be brought to the Committee shortly.
