St Helena Police have today, Tuesday 17 April 2018, launched a ‘Dog Campaign’.
The purpose of this campaign is to target offences such as dogs wandering on the highway without proper control, chasing vehicles, causing road traffic collisions, worrying domestic animals and biting, among other offences. It also aims to educate the public on these issues.
Residents across the Island have raised a number of concerns about dogs and the number of reports received is increasing.
Police will deal with offences committed and any dogs found wandering will be scanned and impounded. Additionally, any other offences relating to dogs will be dealt with and the owner of such dog could be subject to prosecution.
Police Inspector Julianne Benjamin said:
“The message to the public is to keep your dog under proper control. Allowing your dog to wander is a public safety concern, but we are also concerned for the safety of your dog.”
