BIRTHDAY HONOURS 2016

I am pleased to announce the award of a BEM (British Empire Medal) to Malcolm Jack Green, in recognition of his services to the community on Tristan da Cunha.

Malcolm Green (often referred to on Tristan as ‘Jack’) has provided an exceptional level of service to the small isolated Island community on Tristan for over 49 years in his role as Harbour Master, Coxswain of the Police Search & Rescue Boat, Firefighter and Electrician. He is a hardworking, committed and reliable person who puts the welfare of others before his own.

In these various roles, Malcolm has ensured that the Tristan harbour remains safe for both Islanders and visiting ships. There have been occasions when he has had to rescue people in bad sea conditions and, through his expertise, many lives have been saved.  Malcolm has never left Tristan for any formal training.  All of his skills have been acquired through his hard work on the Island.

Malcolm Green is an invaluable member of both the community and Government on Tristan da Cunha and I am sure that you will join me in congratulating him on this well-deserved award.
