History was once again made on St Helena as the first large passenger jet aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 (ZS-ZWG), touched down at St Helena’s new Airport shortly after 12.00 noon. This is the actual Boeing aircraft which will serve the St Helena/Johannesburg route.
As planned, British Airways (operated by Comair) brought in this ‘Implementation Flight’ from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, complete with various Comair, Basil Read and other passengers - plus a consignment of aircraft spare parts which will remain on the Island.

The business jet was chartered by Basil Read to bring Air Safety Support International (ASSI) team of five personnel to St Helena to assess St Helena Airport. The flight departed from Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday morning, calling at Walvis Bay, Namibia, for refueling and a weather update.
On board the aircraft were three pilots and eight passengers connected to the Airport project - including DFID Airport Project Manager, Nigel Kirby, and Basil Read Certification Manager, Alan Shaw.

As part of Marine Awareness Month, this short film was produced to highlight the importance of St Helena's marine environment and the relevance of marine life to all of us.
The film addresses the essential question of ‘Why We Need The Ocean?’
It displays spectacular wildlife in the waters of St Helena and illustrates how important the sea is to St Helena and her people and why we must protect it.

Earlier this year, St Helena Island Councillors and St Helena Government Personnel visited St Helena Airport.
They were given an opportunity to experience entering St Helena Airport as a passenger and undergoing security procedures, driving along the runway and participating in a simulation fire.

History was made on St Helena at 13.50hrs GMT today, Tuesday 15 September 2015, as a Beechcraft King Air 200 aircraft arrived from Angola and touched down at St Helena’s new Airport, prior to conducting a series of calibration flights. This film features the aircraft's journey, touching down on St Helena and interviews with Airport Director Janet Lawrence, Councillor Lawson Henry and Pilot Grant Brighton.

A Commemoration of Napoleon’s Death on St Helena took place at Napoleon’s Tomb, on Saturday 2 May 2015 at 10am. Father Dale Bowers led the Commemoration with Prayers, followed by a one-minute silence signalled by the playing of the ‘last post’, by Dax Richards of the Jamestown Scouts. Hon. French Consul, Monsieur Michel Dancoisne-Martineau addressed those in attendance:

Many milestones have been achieved through dedication and team work; they include the first docking of the NP Glory 4, the construction of the hall road, the filling in of Dry Gut and work on the Airport Buildings. In first place for the adults race was Alonzo Henry, followed closely by Remi Bruneton and in third place Ross Antonio Leo. There was also a track for junior riders with Scott Thomas from Longwood emerging as the winner. This shirt film broadcasts the Commemorative Stone Ceremony which took place at the Airport Site on Saturday 28 June 2014, marking the construction of the Terminal Building. HE Governor Capes unveiled a Commemorative Stone at the front entrance of the Terminal Building, His Lord Bishop Richard Fenwick blessed the building and a Time Capsule was buried by Prince Andrew School Students. Speeches on the day were given by Governor Capes, Basil Read Airport Director Deon De Jager, Deputy Chief Executive for Economic Development, Susan O'Bey, Miles Leask from the Project Management Unit and Deputy Airport Director Clare Harris. This new home is one of the first three Government landlord houses to be built in 10 years. Showcasing modern methods of construction the new home features an open plan layout with two large bedrooms, a bathroom, fully fitted kitchen area, utility room and outside patio. All three new homes are fitted with solar-powered water heating. Members of the public who were unable to attend the Open Day can now watch the Steel-Framed homes film on local TV. With interviews from Andy Crowe, Housing Executive and Tracey Thomas, Housing Manager the film provides an insight into the benefits and reasons behind investing in Steel-Framed homes. In 1998, the inspection of fresh produce arriving on St Helena was formalised. The Biosecurity Team’s job is to protect the Island from new invasive species that can have a disastrous effect on St Helena’s crops and agriculture – and perhaps more importantly, on St Helena’s unique species. The film depicts shots of the cargo operation at the wharf, the offloading of reefers, inspection of fruits and unpacking at the retailers. ‘School Spruce’ is a community based project aimed at visually and physically improving St Helena’s three primary schools, and began in August 2013. St Paul’s Primary School began their physical work in November 2013, building the Early Year’s playground. Parents, children and volunteers worked on consecutive weekends, sanding, cleaning, and painting equipment for the playground. On Monday 14 October 2013 the public were advised that the road between the Briars and Gordons Post would be closed for a 10 week period. In fact due to the hard work of the Roads team the work was completed nearly two weeks earlier than originally scheduled. Preparatory works for the construction of the permanent wharf in Rupert’s are moving ahead. A precasting yard has been constructed in upper Rupert’s Valley (above the new Bulk Fuel Installation) and is set to produce precast units (CORE-LOC (R) and Quay Wall Blocks) for use in the wharf construction.
