The St Helena Community College has on offer Skills for Success courses that will give the community the opportunity to build and develop practical skills for the workplace.
The Skills for Success courses are offered in three tiers:
- Skills for Success – Foundation
- Skills for Success – Intermediate
- Skills for Success – Advanced
Each tier has a range of short courses that will benefit students in their place of work from a Personal Motivation foundation course, to a Minute Taking intermediate course, among others.
Though none of the courses are externally accredited, participants will receive a certificate of participation for each unit completed.
Students can however, from this month, also work toward a full certificate for each Skills for Success tier offered jointly by Enterprise St Helena (ESH) and the SHCC. ESH and the SHCC are committed to working together to provide skills development training to help build St Helena’s economy and workforce.
Acting Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning, Angela Benjamin, said:
“The SHCC in partnership with ESH are proud to offer Skills for Success Certificates. These comprises of both mandatory and optional units for the foundation and intermediate levels and completion of the Supervisory Skills course in the advanced level. These are short courses which delivers the essential underpinning knowledge for both private and SHG businesses. We are excited and eager to commence our very own certificate and encourage participation from all in the community.”
The Skills for Success foundation courses are delivered in a half-day format. Having successfully completed all mandatory and optional units, a Skills for Success Foundation Certificate will provide the underpinning knowledge to succeed in a business environment and build confidence to face the world of work.
The Skills for Success intermediate courses are full day courses. Having successfully completed all mandatory and optional units, a Skills for Success Intermediate Certificate will provide the underpinning knowledge to take on more responsibility in the workplace and begin developing the skills needed for career progression.
The Skills for Success advanced course in Supervisory Skills is delivered in three half-day sessions. Completion of this course will see students awarded a Skills for Success in Supervisory Skills Certificate. This certificate will provide preparation for supervisory roles and can be a good foundation for accredited training in a given career area or in management skills.
Every Skills for Success Certificate is issued jointly by the SHCC and ESH.
