SHG LAUNCHES FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAMME

St Helena Government has today launched its exciting new Future Leaders Programme.

This fast-track Leadership Programme is a high quality and challenging initiative to identify and develop future leaders in SHG.

Targeted at middle managers or those on Grades ‘C’ and ‘D’, it is designed to develop a pool of ambitious, career minded people to fast-track into future leadership positions. The programme will target different cohorts over a period of time.

Staff enrolled on the programme will develop their career and aspire to lead and positively influence the output of SHG.

Chief Secretary, Roy Burke, said:

“This new and innovative style of programme aims to create a continuously developing organisation that is committed to the development and progression of our people.”

Staff enrolled in the programme will receive:

  • An increase in salary as soon as they are accepted onto the programme and a further increase if they successfully pass a six month probation period
  • Tailor made training and development programmes to prepare them for future promotion
  • The prospect of working in a variety of settings across SHG
  • A chance to learn from others at SHG
  • The opportunity to be part of a group of like-minded colleagues who are keen to support local development

SHG FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAMME

St Helena Government is currently offering a fast-track Leadership Programme for middle managers within the public service.

This programme is a high quality and challenging initiative to identify and develop future leaders in SHG.

Staff enrolled on the programme will develop their career and aspire to lead and positively influence the output of government.

Chief Secretary (Designate) Susan O’Bey encourages middle managers to take advantage of this exciting opportunity:

“This is a wonderful opportunity and I would urge staff on Grades ‘C’ or ‘D’ who may be considering a leadership role in the future, to get in touch and find out more about the programme.”

The deadline for applications is Friday, 30 June 2017.

Once you have submitted your application, Corporate HR will review your application against the following criteria:

  • Your motivation to join the programme – are you ambitious and career minded and want to develop within SHG?
  • Your experience and preferences and how these fit with the future leaders abilities, people skills and personality/motivations.

If your application is successful, there will be an assessment centre or selection day. This will allow us to identify the most appropriate people to put forward to the programme.

Further details on selection day will be issued once the deadline for applications close.

SHG FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAMME

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS – FRIDAY 30 JUNE

Applications for St Helena Government’s Future Leaders Programme close this coming Friday, 30 June 2017. 

Chief Secretary Roy Burke reports that there has been a reasonable amount of interest in the programme but encourages more people to come forward. This challenging initiative will help staff enrolled on the programme to develop themselves and become future leaders within the Public Service

Benefits to staff on the programme include:

  • An increase in salary as soon as they are accepted onto the programme and a further increase if they successfully pass a six month probation period

SHG FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAMME ATTRACTS 10 APPLICANTS

Ten members of SHG staff have applied for the SHG Future Leaders Programme, which closed on Friday, 30 June 2017.

Chief Secretary (Designate) Susan O’Bey said:

“This is a great response and demonstrates that people are thinking seriously about their career pathways and are keen to develop their skills.”

Corporate HR is now in the process of short listing the applicants who will then be notified whether they have been accepted onto the programme.

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Applicants’ motivation to join the Future Leaders Programme – whether they are ambitious and career minded and want to develop within SHG
  • Experience and preferences and how these fit with the future leaders abilities, people skills and personality/motivations

 Successful applicants will be invited to an Assessment Centre/Selection Day which is planned to take place on Wednesday, 19 July 2017. During this day, applicants will be assessed on how they ‘fit’ or ‘match’ with the skills, attitudes and outlook of a successful future SHG leader.

The day is likely to include some/all of the following:

 An introduction to the Future Leaders Programme and what this is about

  • Completion of some psychometric tests & exercises, for example, personality questionnaires, motivation questionnaires, ability tests and situational judgement tests
  • Undertaking a group exercise or individual task
  • Having a structured interview about the applicants’ experiences

 Prior to the assessment centre/selection day, applicants will be provided with information about the day and advice on how to prepare for this.
