RHYS FRANCIS BECOMES FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER

Rhys Francis, 18, has recently been promoted to a full-time role within the St Helena Fire & Rescue Service.

Rhys has worked for the Fire & Rescue Service over the last two years as a Cadet Firefighter, under the apprenticeship scheme. During that two-year period, Rhys’s overall performance has been excellent, maintaining a positive, mature attitude, within the workplace, and demonstrating an admirable attitude when working in a team.

St Helena Fire & Rescue Service Brigade Manager, Alan Thomas, said:

“Rhys’s knowledge of firefighting is very good, and this is evident when performing tasks in and around the station as well as on operational duties. He is a quiet member of our team, who has great potential to further develop within specialised areas of the service. Rhys works well with both the full-time and auxiliary staff.”

Since joining the service as an apprentice, Rhys has adapted well to life as a firefighter and has shown great enthusiasm and flexibility when dealing with both daily operations and emergency call-outs. He has demonstrated his commitment to the Fire & Rescue Service and has become a valued member of the team.

Since enrolling on the Rope Rescue training, Rhys’s confidence has excelled and he has made great achievements in this area. His significant contributions to the core functions have helped the service achieve their targets and objectives.

Alan concluded:

“Rhys is a keen learner and when the opportunity presents itself, he utilises any spare time effectively by reading and practicing any new skills learnt. I have every confidence that he will continue to grow and develop within the realms of firefighting, and who knows, we could be looking at a future Chief Fire officer. I welcome, and wish him well in his chosen firefighting career.”

Rhys said:

“I am very pleased on becoming a full time firefighter and excited for what the future holds for me within this post. It is a privilege to have been the successful candidate and I will strive to uphold the core values within the St Helena Fire & Rescue Service.”
