POLICE PLEASED WITH RESPONSE TO PARKING CAMPAIGN

Over the last three weeks a Public Awareness Campaign on parking has been run by the St Helena Police Service. This campaign was carried out following concerns about the parking situation in Jamestown – with particular focus on the ‘time restricted’ parking spaces.

Chief of Police, Trevor Botting, said:

“My team and I are delighted at the response of the local community following our high profile campaign over the last three weeks. Parking was raised with me as an issue and it is important that the Police Service listens and responds to those concerns. My officers have worked hard to engage with the community to remind drivers of the parking restrictions and their personal responsibility in complying with them. Since the campaign started I have received feedback that the situation is easing – with more responsible parking being the main reason for this improvement.

“I am grateful to Elected Members for raising this issue with me and for their support with our response. I am also grateful to our community for the way they have responded to advice. As St Helena, and particularly Jamestown, heads into the busy festive period I urge drivers to continue to park within the regulations and with courtesy towards fellow motorists.

“The next Safer Driving campaign will start in earnest during December, but the focus on parking will continue. I am banking on the continued support of motorists to ensure St Helena’s roads remain safe during the festive period.”
